Matthew Breetzke makes history scoring 150 on ODI debut

South African batter Matthew Breetzke made history on Monday by scoring 150 runs on his ODI debut against New Zealand on in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. 

 

This is now the highest score by any player in their first-ever ODI match.

 

Opening the innings, the right-hander reached his century in 128 balls and played a key role in South Africa's strong start. He broke a long-standing record set by West Indies' Desmond Haynes, who scored 148 against Australia in 1978.

127 – Rahmanullah Gurbaz vs IRE in Abu Dhabi, 2021

 

Breetzke also became the fourth South African to score a century on hiscODI debut, joining Colin Ingram, Temba Bavuma, and Reeza Hendricks. Bavuma scored 113 against Ireland in 2016, while Hendricks hit a century against Sri Lanka in 2018.

 

South Africa is facing New Zealand in the second Match of the Tri-Nation series at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Pakistan is the third participant in the series.
