Meta will launch Muse Charm, a small handheld device built around its Muse AI assistant, by the holidays in December, CEO [Chief Executive Officer] Mark Zuckerberg announced during the Meta Connect keynote on Wednesday.
The always-on device gives users a way to interact with Muse without wearing Meta’s smart glasses. Zuckerberg described Muse Charm as the fastest way to talk to the AI assistant without putting on the glasses.
Meta had teased the device earlier in the keynote. During a live demonstration, Zuckerberg used Meta’s glasses to speak with his customised Muse assistant, which he named Agrippa. He discussed a handheld device he was working on with the assistant before revealing that the device was Muse Charm.
The device resembles a Tamagotchi and targets people who do not wear Meta’s smart glasses.
Muse remained at the centre of Meta’s keynote, with the company describing it as a personal agent that can set goals, share ideas and run tasks in the background. Users can also customise the assistant’s personality and voice.
Meta offers Muse through free usage as well as paid subscriptions. Zuckerberg also said Meta could eventually take a small fee from transactions completed with the help of the assistant.
Meta has not announced a price for Muse Charm. The company said that it will provide more details later, while Zuckerberg confirmed that the device will ship in December.
Muse Charm enters the standalone AI device market after products from other companies faced problems following their launches.
Humane’s Ai Pin and Rabbit R1 both received harsh reviews after they launched in 2024. Humane discontinued the Ai Pin the following year.
Muse Charm’s main difference is its connection to the same Muse assistant that powers Meta’s glasses. Whether that approach will help the device avoid the problems faced by earlier AI gadgets will become clearer after it reaches users.
