Former finance minister Miftah Ismail has jokingly rejected claims that Cocomo biscuits are running out of chocolate, calling them Indian propaganda, stressing that they cannot be true.

Miftah, who owns Cocomo’s parent company Ismail Industries made the comments in a conversation during a recent podcast.

The host raised the claim directly, saying that a typical packet holds three biscuits and that two of them contain no chocolate. “In a packet of Cocomo, there are usually three biscuits, and out of those, two don’t even have any chocolate in them!”

Miftah said the claim was fabricated. “That is complete nonsense and a total lie. It’s a completely fabricated statement based on falsehoods,” he responded.

“I feel like there’s some kind of Indian conspiracy behind this,” he said laughingly.

Miftah argued that the numbers made the claim impossible. He said the odds of two empty biscuits in a packet of three are close to zero.

“Out of three biscuits, the probability of two being empty is practically zero,” he said.

He said his company sells about 100 million bags a month and that none has ever come out that way. “Not a single bag comes out where two out of three biscuits are empty. That’s just impossible,” he firmly stated.

Miftah pointed out that the company depends on quality for its livelihood and enforces strict quality control. “We are extremely careful about quality control,” he added.

He ended with another joke about the source of the claim. “This sounds completely like Indian propaganda, yeah, pure Indian propaganda orchestrated by Modi sahib,” he joked.

Bisconni, the biscuit division of Ismail Industries, launched Cocomo in 2002. The chocolate-filled biscuit became one of Pakistan’s best-known snacks, helped by its jingle “Cocomo, mujhe bhi do.”

Miftah Ismail is one of the owners of Bisconni and the confectionery brand Candyland.

Cocomo sparked online debate in 2021 when the company reduced the number of biscuits in a pack from five to three. Many Twitter users joined a campaign asking Miftah to guarantee at least five pieces in a Rs5 pack.

Other users complained that some biscuits came without chocolate.
