WhatsApp messages exchanged between murdered Karachi entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali and his friend before his death have highlighted the scale of financial losses allegedly suffered by his family, including a claim that his father was defrauded of Rs15 million, according to news reports.
The messages, exchanged with Abdullah Bhardey, show the two discussing the family’s worsening financial situation.
Bhardey urged Mir Raza to remain strong and speak to him, assuring him that he would not discuss business matters.
Mir Raza allegedly replied that his father had been “scammed out of Rs15 million”.
He also claimed the family had sold gold worth Rs14 million and a vehicle valued at Rs3 million in a single day.
“Everything we had is gone,” he allegedly wrote.
Meanwhile, reports said an alleged video had surfaced showing payments being made to creditors at Mir Raza’s residence.
The footage purportedly shows several people exchanging money inside the house, although the circumstances surrounding the payments remain unclear.
Separately, Dr Summaiya told the judicial commission that she had faced threats after challenging aspects of the first post-mortem report.
She said she was followed by a motorcycle for two days and received threats, while alleging that a police officer had attempted to influence her findings.
She also said a “public campaign” was being conducted against her and that information about her family had been shared online.
Dr Summaiya said she had filed a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) over the online harassment.
Justice Sial asked whether she wanted Rangers personnel deployed for her protection, but she declined security.
The commission directed the relevant authorities to inform Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah of her concerns and asked the provincial police chief to ensure her safety.
The commission’s written order said Dr Summaiya appeared to have been targeted for intimidation as an important witness in the case.
It also recorded her allegation that DIG Amir Farooqi had treated her in a threatening manner and attempted to influence her findings.
The order said DIG Farooqi would be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations when he appears before the commission.
