Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has appeared before the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Friday for the forensic examination and analysis of his mobile phone, which the agency holds in custody.

The NCCIA issued Rizwan a second notice under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. It asked for his cooperation in examining the phone it seized from him.

According to reports, a four-member NCCIA team, made up of a deputy director and three inspectors, will question him.

Rizwan did not say what he thought of the inquiry when reporters asked him on arrival. When they asked about the allegations against him, he replied, “Ask them [NCCIA].”

In an earlier letter, Rizwan asked for written details of the inquiry and the return of his phone. He has said that officials took the phone from him in England on 31 August and that he gave them the password at the time. He also said that they examined the device in his presence.

He added that officials had access to his unlocked phone when he appeared before the NCCIA on September 10, which allowed them to review messages and other material.

The NCCIA has investigated Rizwan for about a month, after it confiscated his phone during Pakistan’s Test tour of England.

The inquiry reportedly relates to allegations involving online betting, gambling and the leaking of team information from the dressing room. Pakistan lost the three-match series 3-0.
