Fashion designer Deepak Parwani has praised Lahore’s infrastructure while taking a dig at Karachi’s urban conditions, prompting Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab Maryam Nawaz to welcome him to the city after he suggested that he might move there.
In a post on X, Parwani highlighted Lahore’s Central Business District (CBD), MM Alam Road, Main Boulevard and the entrance to the airport, particularly praising the city’s underpasses and greenery.
“Time to move to #lahore just beautiful #cbd #mmalam #mainboulevard and the entrance to the airport just a different level. Beautiful underpasses greenery. While #karachi is dark depressing potholed and ugly! Definitely left behind,” he wrote.
Responding to his post, Maryam Nawaz said, “Most welcome bro”.
Lahore has seen several infrastructure development projects, including the completion of Route-47, which connects Kalma Chowk and Gulberg with Walton Road through the newly constructed CBD main boulevard and a flyover.
The Rs13 billion project forms part of the development of the Central Business District-Walton infrastructure scheme. It also includes the remodelling of Kalma Chowk, involving the construction of two underpasses, one connecting the CBD and the other linking Centre Point with Firdous Market.
According to a report published by a private media outlet in April 2025, the project also covers the development of sewerage, water supply, telephone and gas systems, alongside green spaces, parking facilities and commercial plazas intended to support the development of the country’s first skyline of skyscrapers.
Meanwhile, Karachi has also been the focus of major infrastructure rehabilitation plans. On January 23, 2026, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah approved a Rs21.53 billion package, including a Rs13 billion grant-in-aid for the rehabilitation and improvement of road infrastructure managed by the city’s Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs).
According to a press release from the chief minister’s office, the initiative aims to ease traffic congestion, improve public safety and boost economic activity in the provincial capital.
