A four-year-old girl sustained critical injuries after her family allegedly set her on fire during an exorcism in the Aroop locality of Gujranwala on Thursday.

The survivor, identified as Mirha, was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Gujranwala for medical treatment. Hospital sources confirm that she remains in critical condition due to the severity of the burns.

Initial police investigations reveal that the family acted on the suspicion that the minor was possessed by a jinn and influenced by black magic.

Gujranwala police conducted a raid and arrested four members of the victim’s immediate family. The detained individuals include the mother, Lubna, her daughter, Muzamil Bibi, and two sons, Muneeb and Haseeb.

According to a Gujranwala police spokesperson, the suspects offered stiff resistance during the arrest operation.

City Police Officer (CPO) Dr. Ghias Gul took notice of the incident and assigned the inquiry to a specialized team led by the Civil Lines Superintendent of Police (SP).

The police spokesperson stated that the CPO is committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. Authorities confirmed that while the suspects are in custody, the case was yet to be lodged at the time of the arrests.
