Umesh Kumar, a close friend of Indian cricketer Muhammad Shami, has revealed that Shami had thought of suicide after match-fixing allegations against Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Shami has many achievements and records in his cricket career, but his private life is also in the news.

In Shami’s private life, his disagreement with his wife, distance from his daughter, allegations of match-fixing, claims of violence against his wife and then, also dropped from Central Contract are some of the most challenging moments of his life. Kumar revealed that Shami thought of suicide during this time.

Kumar said in a podcast, “This period was difficult for Shami. At that time, Shami lived with me in my house. Still, when he was accused of match-fixing with Pakistan, and the investigation started that night, he told me that he could tolerate everything but could not tolerate accusations like cheating the country.”

“One day after that, it was around 4 am when I got up to drink water. I saw Shami standing on the terrace of the 19th floor of the building. I could understand that it was the most difficult night of his career. Then he got a call that he got a clean chit from the committee investigating the fixing charge, which he was then, happy about.”
