Nadia Khan has broken her silence on the backlash she received after mimicking Sajal Aly’s dialogue delivery in a review of Hum TV’s drama “Zanjeerain.”
On a recent episode of “Kya Drama Hai”, host Mukarram Kaleem asked her, “Nadia, I think you believe in making headlines for both good or bad reasons. Is that true?”
Nadia replied, “Going viral doesn’t bother me anymore. I don’t care now. There was a time it used to affect me but not anymore. Let people say whatever they want. We have grown up doing our own therapy. This criticism doesn’t matter.”
She went on to point out the flaws in the drama’s storyline, saying, “Why is Sarbuland not searching for Bano? If you are busy, send your friends. He even forgot Mudassir. He is busy with Zarmala, with her curly hair.”
She added, “There was a very powerful scene where Sajal performed well, but Sar Buland’s expressions were off. He didn’t perform well, and the scene was ruined. The writer is dragging the story, and their bonding feels off. Don’t add flashbacks, we are running out of patience.”
The controversy began after Nadia mimicked Sajal’s performance during an escape scene in an earlier episode, arguing that the delivery lacked urgency for a character supposedly running from danger.
The clip drew sharp criticism from within the industry. Actor Saba Faisal accused Nadia of being disrespectful toward a fellow artist on a public platform, while “Zanjeerain” writer Saima Akram Chaudhry called her behaviour inappropriate and defended her own script.
Actress Maya Ali also weighed in without naming Nadia directly, drawing a distinction between constructive criticism and mockery, and praising Sajal’s body of work and international recognition.
The clip also triggered a wave of reactions from social media users, many of whom accused Nadia of targeting Sajal out of jealousy, while others felt she was simply using the moment to stay relevant online.
This is not the first time Nadia has drawn criticism for mimicking an actor’s performance. She had previously done the same with Saima Noor and Sajal Aly over their roles in the drama “Main Manto Nahi Hoon.”
