A Karachi court on Friday acquitted Natasha Danish in a drug-use case arising from a fatal Karsaz Road accident in August 2024, ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish the charge for lack of evidence.
The judicial magistrate (East), hearing the case at Karachi’s City Court, acquitted Danish after the prosecution was unable to prove that she had used methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, according to her lawyer Fawad Ali Kachhi.
Kachhi said the chemical examiner’s report and blood test did not establish the presence of methamphetamine in Danish’s blood.
He also alleged that samples collected by police had been tampered with.
The lawyer further alleged that the investigating officer had withheld the blood test report during the investigation.
The drug-use case was registered following the Karsaz accident on August 19, 2024, after medical and urine reports had allegedly indicated methamphetamine use.
Danish was driving a vehicle that lost control on Karsaz Road and struck vehicles and pedestrians, according to the case record cited during the proceedings.
The crash killed 60-year-old Imran Arif and his daughter, Amna Arif, and injured four other people.
Police arrested Danish after the accident and registered a separate criminal case under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In the drug case proceedings, a judicial magistrate had previously granted Danish bail against surety bonds of Rs1 million.
She was released in September 2024 after spending 43 days in jail. Sindh High Court had also granted her bail in the drug-use case.
Danish has already been acquitted in the main case related to the Karsaz accident.
