Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been appointed chairman of the Lahore Heritage Area Revival Board with immediate effect, according to an official notification issued by the Punjab government.

According to a Punjab Gazette notification issued on July 23 by the Local Government and Community Development Department, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan constituted the Lahore Heritage Area Revival Board under Section 8-A of the Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority Act, 2012, which authorises the governor to constitute such boards.

According to the notification, Nawaz Sharif, who is also a Member of the National Assembly from NA-130, will serve as chairman of the newly constituted body.

The appointment follows media reports claiming that the former prime minister had been named to head the board. The gazette notification formally confirms the decision.

The Lahore Heritage Area Revival Board has been established to oversee efforts related to the preservation, restoration and revitalisation of Lahore’s historic areas.

The body is expected to guide initiatives aimed at protecting the city’s architectural and cultural heritage while supporting urban renewal within designated heritage zones.

The Punjab Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority Act, 2012 provides the legal framework for the conservation, management and development of historic urban areas in the province.

The Act also allows the provincial government to establish bodies responsible for planning and implementing heritage conservation measures.
