The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) arrested a suspect in Faisalabad for allegedly storing and sharing child sexual abuse material online and recovered a mobile phone containing suspected illegal content.
An NCCIA official told the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) on Friday that the Faisalabad Circle team carried out the raid after receiving confidential information and tracing the suspect using technology.
The operation took place on the directions of NCCIA Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi as part of the agency’s policy against child sexual exploitation.
Officials seized a mobile phone from the suspect and sent it to a forensic laboratory for further examination. Initial checks indicated that the device contained suspected child sexual abuse material, the official added.
Police registered a case against the suspect under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and other relevant laws. Investigators are also looking into possible links between the suspect and other individuals involved in the alleged online network.
NCCIA Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said that protecting children’s safety and dignity remained a priority for the agency. He added that the agency will take strict action against those involved in child sexual exploitation and the distribution of illegal material involving children.
Rizvi directed NCCIA teams to continue action against such offences across the country and bring those responsible to justice under the law.
He also urged citizens to report suspected child sexual abuse material or related online activity through the NCCIA helpline 1799 or at their nearest NCCIA circle.
