The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned Pakistani cricketers as part of an ongoing investigation, media reports have said.
According to reports, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had taken possession of the players’ mobile phones and forwarded them to the relevant authorities for examination.
The NCCIA has issued notices to Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan, calling them in for questioning, reports added. A third cricketer has also received a notice from the agency, though the news reports did not name the player.
The NCCIA will investigate information retrieved from the players’ phones reports added. The PCB has not yet explained why it took possession of the devices in the first place.
Reports added that Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan are expected to appear before the NCCIA office in Lahore on Friday. Both players received their notices on Monday, directing them to report to the agency’s Lahore office.
Reports further said the two cricketers will be required to unlock their phones for investigators, who will examine the devices as part of a probe into dressing room leaks that occurred during Pakistan’s England series.
The board had earlier carried out a sweeping overhaul of the national team. It released seven players, including Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha, and let go of head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul ahead of the dead-rubber third Test at Edgbaston.
Five uncapped players came in as replacements, with three making their debuts in Birmingham.
