Nepal has denied public screening permission to Udta Teer, an upcoming Bollywood film starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, ahead of its global theatrical release.

As per the details, an official letter from Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to distributor National Cine Group Nepal states that the Central Film Censor Board refused permission under Section 8(3) of the National Cinema (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026.

The provision bars the board from approving films, or parts of films, that jeopardise security, law and order, or Nepal’s harmonious relations with friendly states, among other grounds.

The board reviewed the material submitted for examination and determined that the film’s content fell within a category restricted by the law.

While Indian media reports attributed the ban to Udta Teer’s portrayal of Pakistan and its tensions with India, Nepal’s official letter did not explicitly link the decision to the same.

The film, directed by Aakash Kaushik, was scheduled to hit cinemas on October 23.
