The federal government has decided to impose a smart lockdown in the wake of rising petroleum prices, a private media outlet reported Tuesday.
According to reports, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting where officials reviewed several proposals related to the plan.
Reports quoting sources close to the discussions said that the government has finalised its decision to impose a “petroleum smart lockdown”, with a formal announcement expected this evening.
Under the proposed plan, government and private offices will move to a four-day work week, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday off to cut down on transport and fuel use.
A rotation-based work formula for government employees is also under consideration, reports said, adding that markets could remain closed for three days a week, along with a reduction in daily business hours.
