A newborn girl has allegedly been killed by her father after he slammed her onto the floor during a quarrel with his wife at their house in Ahmedpur East, Bahawalpur.

According to police and Rescue 1122, Muhammad Fayyaz, a labourer, had strained relations with his wife. The couple exchanged harsh words during a quarrel when Fayyaz allegedly picked up their daughter and slammed her onto the floor.

The infant suffered a head injury and died instantly, while Fayyaz fled the house after the incident.

The City Police Station Ahmedpur East shifted the infant’s body to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Ahmedpur East for a post-mortem examination.

Police have yet to register a murder case in connection with the incident.

In a similar incident a few weeks ago, a woman allegedly killed her two minor children with a knife and then stabbed herself in the throat in Quetta’s Hanna area.

Police identified the woman as Sakina, wife of Hikmatullah, and said that she lived in Chashma Achuzai Gork near PDMA Chowk.

According to police, Sakina killed her 20-day-old daughter Hameeda and her one-year-old son Naimatullah before stabbing herself in the throat.

Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and shifted the bodies of the two children and the injured woman to a hospital.

Police said that Sakina had been married for four years. Officers registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and to determine a possible motive.
