Four soldiers were martyred and nine terrorists killed as security forces repulsed an attack on an army camp in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Bajaur district, reports quoted official sources as saying Friday.

According to reports, terrorists from Fitna-al-Khawarij – the state-designated term for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) – stormed the camp on Thursday night, using explosives and attempting to break through one of the gates under heavy fire.

Security forces responded and pushed the attack back, foiling the attempt. The terrorists were unable to enter the camp despite the use of explosives and intense firing.

A search and clearance operation was subsequently launched at the site, while injured personnel were shifted to Peshawar for treatment.

The TTP claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.

The incident comes three days after a blast in KP’s Lakki Marwat killed nine people, including two traffic policemen, and left over 30 others injured.

Before that, 15 police personnel were martyred in a suicide attack on the Fateh Khel police post in KP’s Bannu district on May 9.

The attacks are part of a pattern of rising terror incidents in the province.
