Actor and television host Ahsan Khan has spoken up about the impact of working on Udaari, sharing how the role led to a period of emotional strain.
During an appearance on Frieha Altaf’s talk show, Khan said that the project stayed with him beyond filming. He said, “I had sleepless nights, nobody can imagine what I went through. I started writing, I started thinking after Udaari, is this really happening with kids.”
He said that the experience influenced his professional choices after the drama ended. “I didn’t work for four to six months after Udaari. I couldn’t choose a character,” he revealed.
During the conversation, Altaf asked him directly whether he experienced depression following the project. Khan responded by acknowledging a change in his mental state. “Well I did feel low, you do naturally, and when you think about the kids and what they are going through,” he said.
He linked his response to the real-life stories that surfaced after the drama aired. According to Khan, people approached him to share their experiences. “Stories started coming out, people came to me and told me stories, married women used to come to me and tell those stories,” he said.
Khan also spoke about the reliance on faith. He mentioned Surah Ad-Duha while discussing how he deals with such phases, describing it as a source he turns to during difficult moments.
He said that engaging with others and focusing on positive actions also plays a role in managing emotional stress. According to him, helping others and staying connected can shift one’s state of mind.
Udaari, which aired in 2016, was a drama that explored child abuse and its social and emotional impact on victims and their families. The serial featured Ahsan Khan in the role of an abuser. The storyline addressed sensitive topics and highlighted the challenges faced by survivors within society.
