A 23-day-old newborn baby girl receiving treatment in the nursery of the gynaecology ward at Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi lost a thumb at the facility, leading her father to file a complaint with the police.
The child’s father Qaisar Mehmood, a carpenter residing in district Attock, said that his daughter was born at Holy Family Hospital and is in the nursery since birth.
Mehmood stated that upon visiting his daughter at the hospital, he noticed that her right thumb had been cut off whereupon he immediately questioned the doctors.
According to Mehmood, doctors told him that a nurse accidentally cut the thumb. He added that the hospital administration is offering assurances of an inquiry without clarifying the cause of the incident or taking action against anyone responsible.
The father submitted an application to the police seeking justice. Police officials stated that after receiving the application, they completed an initial investigation and are proceeding according to the law.
The management of Holy Family Hospital has not issued an official response about the incident.
