Hungarian Prime Minister (PM) Peter Magyar has revealed that Pakistan’s prime minister sent him 90 mangoes, a gesture he said arrived as a pleasant surprise waiting in his office at the end of a long day. Sharing the news on social media, Magyar noted that within an hour, only a handful of the mangoes were left.

Referencing the gift, Magyar tied it back to another unusual present he had received earlier this year at the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) summit in Ankara. “Not everyone gives a revolver as a gift,” he wrote, pointing to the custom engraved Magnum revolver Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had given him at the summit.

Magyar had previously disclosed that Erdogan presented select heads of state and government with personalised Magnum revolvers engraved with each recipient’s name, complete with ammunition. “NATO summit gift from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan: a Magnum revolver engraved with my name, together with bullets,” he had said that at the time.

The revolvers went on to draw scrutiny of their own after their functional nature triggered security and import procedures in several countries. Some leaders left the weapons behind in Türkiye, while others handed them to security personnel upon returning home, with additional measures reportedly applied depending on regulations around transporting working firearms internationally.
