Christopher Patten has announced his retirement as the chancellor of Oxford Chancellor Election Date University at the end of the 2023-2024 academic year. He was the university chancellor since March 2003.

He said, “This year, I will have my 80th birthday in May. I hope that there will be many more birthdays to come. But I am unlikely to have another 21 years in the job as Chancellor of the University.”

Christopher Patten also said, “I think it is in my own interest and that of the University for me to step down at the end of this academic year, giving the University the opportunity to plan a sensible succession which matches the demands of the 2020s. I say this with a heavy heart, trusting that I will still be able to work for Oxford University, which I love, from time to time.”

The new Oxford chancellor election date is during the third week of the 2024 Michaelmas term. Online voting will be held, and more than 250,000 colleagues and alums can vote. Applications for the position were due on August 18, 2024. Voting rights will be given to any student who has completed an eligible degree before the Chancellor’s election. It could happen if voter registration is finished by August 18 and the degree is granted by October 1. 

Congregation

Congregational members will not be required to register to vote; they will automatically receive a personalized voting link. They can access their email address stored in the congregation database by clicking the voting link.

Retired Staff Members

Retired employees who belonged to the congregation on their retirement date must register to vote in the election for Chancellor.

Syed Zulfi Bukhari confirmed that Khan’s application for the October election has been submitted.
