Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a gas discovery at the Dolphin X-1 exploration well in the Sarani block in Sindh’s Sujawal district, with the well producing around 950,000 standard cubic feet of gas per day.
As per the details, the company said the discovery was the first successful gas find from the Chiltan Formation of the Lower Indus Basin, opening up further exploration prospects in near-shore and shallow offshore areas.
Drilling at Dolphin X-1 began on April 17 and reached a depth of 3,850 metres, where engineers identified the gas-bearing formation.
PPL said that the discovery adds to Pakistan’s domestic hydrocarbon potential and could support further exploration in the area, including marshy onshore terrain and shallow-water offshore prospects.
PPL holds a 75 percent working interest in the Sarani block, while the operator GHP owns the remaining 25 percent. The company also acknowledged the Pakistan Navy for its support during the exploration and drilling operations.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange has formally been notified about the discovery.
