Pakistan’s armed forces have destroyed several Afghan Taliban check posts in a retaliatory operation after cross-border firing in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), martyred one civilian and injured five members of the same family, reports quoted security sources as saying.
Lower South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner (DC) Musarat Zaman reported that Afghan Taliban forces opened unprovoked firing on Angoor Adda bazaar and nearby residential areas.
A mortar shell struck the area, martyring one civilian and injuring five others. The shelling also damaged several shops, according to the deputy commissioner.
The deputy commissioner added that Pakistani forces stationed along the border were responding to the attack. Security sources said that the Pakistan Army retaliated swiftly and destroyed several Afghan Taliban check posts across the border.
The sources noted that the military response was continuing and troops remained prepared to counter any further aggression.
The incident follows repeated cross-border clashes in the Angoor Adda sector. In late April, mortar shelling from across the border injured civilians and damaged homes in South Waziristan, prompting Pakistani forces to target Afghan Taliban positions, according to security sources and local authorities cited by a private media outlet.
The latest incident takes place after hostilities resumed in February, when Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent terrorists groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned what he described as the Afghan Taliban regime’s “unprovoked and blatant aggression” against civilians in South Waziristan.
“Let the Afghan Taliban regime have no illusions: Pakistan will never tolerate attacks on its people or violations of its sovereignty,” he wrote in a post on X.
Kundi added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had sacrificed thousands of lives in the fight against terrorism and maintained that the government would not allow anyone to threaten its citizens or undermine security.
He pledged that Pakistan would confront any aggression with resolve.
“Our armed forces have the full backing of the nation to defend every inch of our soil, and no threat or hostile act will weaken our determination to protect Pakistan,” he said.
