Pakistan and Kuwait have signed a defence agreement to expand military cooperation between their armed forces in training, capacity building, and border management.
Top officials from both countries signed the “Protocol Agreement-2026” in Islamabad on Thursday. The Ministry of Defence stated that the agreement expands the defence framework established under the “Defence Cooperation Agreement-2023.”
The agreement was signed following a meeting between a delegation from Kuwait, led by Minister of Defence Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah, and Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
The Ministry of Defence stated that during the meeting, both sides discussed bilateral defence relations, security cooperation, and methods to strengthen defence ties between Pakistan and Kuwait.
Under the terms of Protocol Agreement-2026, the Pakistan Armed Forces will provide assistance to the Kuwait Armed Forces in training, capacity building, border management, and other defence areas.
“The agreement reflects the deep trust, mutual respect and shared strategic interests underpinning the longstanding defence relationship between the two brotherly countries,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement, adding that both sides reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen the partnership to support mutual security and regional peace.
Prior to the signing ceremony, the Kuwaiti delegation visited General Headquarters in Rawalpindi to meet Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the meeting focused on regional security and bilateral defence cooperation.
“The Kuwaiti delegation appreciated the professionalism, operational excellence and valuable contributions of the Pakistan Armed Forces towards regional peace and stability,” the ISPR stated.
ISPR added that the engagement reaffirmed the resolve of Pakistan and Kuwait to consolidate relations into a defence partnership that contributes to regional security and stability.
