Pakistan Navy vessels have seized narcotics weighing more than 2,800 kilogrammes and valued at an estimated Rs20,790 crore during an operation in the Arabian Sea.
According to the military’s media wing, the seizure was made by HUNAIN and YARMOOK after the two ships intercepted a suspicious boat while carrying out a routine patrol.
Navy personnel boarded the boat and searched its concealed compartments, where they found the narcotics, ISPR said.
The operation was conducted as part of efforts to counter the trafficking of illegal substances at sea.
ISPR did not provide details about the type of narcotics recovered or identify those aboard the intercepted vessel.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf praised the Navy personnel involved in the operation, citing their professionalism and vigilance.
He also reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to maintaining maritime security and preventing illicit trafficking in the country’s maritime areas.
President Asif Ali Zardari separately congratulated the officers and crew of HUNAIN and YARMOOK, praising their handling of the operation and the successful recovery.
The president said the Navy’s work was important in preventing illegal activities in maritime areas and protecting the country’s sea routes.
“Pakistan Navy is playing a valuable role in protecting the country’s maritime boundaries and sea routes,” Zardari stated, according to the President’s Office.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and security and combating illicit activities.
