Pakistan’s security forces have foiled an attempted drone attack on a security check-post in Balochistan’s Kharan district, shooting down five drones before they could reach their intended targets, Geo News reported on Friday.
According to Geo News, the drones were aimed at a security check-post established in the Albat area of Kharan district. Security forces responded promptly and destroyed all five drones before they could strike the target.
No casualties or property damage were reported in the incident.
The development comes a month after Pakistan intercepted eight drones that entered the country’s airspace from Afghanistan. The drones were detected and shot down by the country’s air defence system before they could cause any damage.
Pakistan’s air defence system along the Pak-Afghan border remains operational round the clock, according to security officials.
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in cross-border militant attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan. Pakistan maintains that the Afghan Taliban authorities have failed to take effective action against groups targeting its security forces and civilians, while Kabul has disputed these allegations.
In February 2026, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq following months of tensions with Afghanistan. The two countries had agreed to a ceasefire in October 2025 after clashes along several border points.
Despite multiple rounds of negotiations, Islamabad and Kabul have yet to resolve their differences, with the presence of militant groups in Afghanistan remaining a major point of contention.
