Security forces have responded to firing from Afghan Taliban border posts targeting Pakistani positions in South Waziristan, as troops struck multiple Afghan posts, mortar positions and defensive installations, a Deputy Commissioner (DC) has said.
In a post on X, DC of South Waziristan Lower said on Sunday Afghan border posts had opened fire on Pakistani positions in the Angoor Adda area, prompting an immediate response from security forces.
He said that the forces targeted several Afghan border posts, mortar positions and defensive installations during the operation. The DC added that Afghan Taliban personnel abandoned their posts and fled following the response.
He further said that no casualties had been reported in Pakistani border areas and that security forces remained prepared to respond to any further aggression.
The latest exchange came days after Afghan Taliban forces opened fire on civilian houses and Angoor Adda Bazaar on the night of October 27.
A mortar shell struck a house in a residential area, killing one civilian and injuring five others, according to the DC and security sources. Several shops in the bazaar were also damaged in the shelling.
Security forces subsequently launched a retaliatory operation and destroyed multiple Afghan Taliban checkposts across the border.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) later said that Pakistani forces had destroyed seven Afghan Taliban posts during the operation.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban administration to prevent terrorist groups, particularly the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), from using Afghan territory to carry out attacks inside Pakistan.
