Pakistan is set to participate in the 12th edition of the Hockey Asia Cup in India after receiving diplomatic approval from Indian authorities, according to Indian media reports.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Rajgir from August 27 to September 7, 2025.

Pakistan’s participation had been uncertain amid tense relations between the two countries, but India’s sports ministry has confirmed that there are no objections to Pakistan competing in this multi-nation event.

According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), a ministry spokesperson said, “We are not against any team competing in India in a multi-national competition. But bilateral is different.”

However, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has stated that the team's participation in India depends on government approval. PHF Secretary General Rana Mujahid has previously said that Pakistan will only compete in the Asia Cup if the government grants permission.

While the clearance allows Pakistan to travel, it remains to be seen whether the Pakistan Hockey Federation will agree to send the team across the border or request a hybrid model for some matches, similar to recent cricket arrangements.

The Hockey Asia Cup is an important qualifying event for the 2026 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup, making Pakistan’s participation crucial as they aim to revive their proud hockey legacy.
