A Pakistani mountaineer Muhammad Iftikhar Hussain lost his life after an avalanche struck during an expedition to K2, the world’s second-highest peak.
According to Shigar Deputy Commissioner Arif Hussain, four climbers were caught in the avalanche, three of whom were foreign nationals and were rescued with minor injuries. They have been shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The Pakistani climber was unable to survive the incident. His body is being transported to Skardu and will be laid to rest in his native village of Sadpara.
Deputy Commissioner Arif Hussain confirmed that the late mountaineer belonged to the Sadpara village, known for producing several renowned climbers.
