Pattoki man dies after being electrocuted through mosque’s chanda box

News Desk

Feb 12

A man in Pattoki has died after being electrocuted through a local mosque’s metallic charity donation box.

A senior police official in the city told Independent Urdu that there are five to six mosques and madrassahs in the area where the young man, named Tanveer Akhtar Jan, died.

“The administration of these mosques and madrassahs release electric current in the boxes at night,” he said.

SHO of the police station said that they received a call from a citizen between the night of February 11 and 12, saying that a body was lying near the gate of the graveyard in Chak 13, a village named Jodh Singh Walla.

Police are investigating whether Tanveer was electrocuted while attempting to ransack the donation box.

While a case has been registered against six people who run the mosque’s affairs, a member of the mosque’s administration said that drug addicts steal from the donation boxes at night, forcing the mosques to resort to such measures.

Tanveer’s family told the police that they neither want to pursue legal proceedings nor want an autopsy of his body. The case, however, has been registered by the police on their own.
