Pakistan captain Fatima Sana will play her first Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season with Perth Scorchers after the club signed her for Weber WBBL|12.

It is one of the most significant international signings in the history of the women’s Big Bash.

Sana has signed a one-year deal with the club and will be available for the first eight games of the season. The 24-year-old allrounder has played 134 white-ball matches for Pakistan.

She will become only the second Pakistan player to feature in the WBBL. Nida Dar played 11 games for Sydney Thunder in WBBL 05.

Sana was nominated for the overseas player draft last year, but none of the eight Big Bash teams picked her. The league has since shelved the draft.

“This really is a dream come true,” Sana said in a statement.

Sana made her Pakistan debut during the side’s 2019 tour of South Africa. In 2021, she became the first woman from her country to win an ICC award, when the ICC named her Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year. The Karachi-born player has captained Pakistan permanently since the 2024 T20 World Cup.

She has had a standout 2026. She took 11 wickets at this year’s T20 World Cup and earned a place in the team of the tournament. In May, she hit the fastest fifty in women’s T20 internationals, reaching the mark in 15 balls against Zimbabwe.

In July, she became the first Pakistan woman to play in the ECB’s Hundred, appearing in six matches for Birmingham Phoenix.

Last month, she helped Pakistan win bronze at the Asian Games. She has taken 31 wickets and scored 540 runs in T20Is this year.

No Pakistan woman has scored more runs or taken more wickets in the format in 2026.
