Peshawar High Court on Monday directed a citizen named Quaid-e-Azam to appear before the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) board after hearing his petition challenging the blocking of his CNIC.

The petition was heard by Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Inamullah Khan.

Counsel for the petitioner told the court that Quaid-e-Azam is a businessman and that his CNIC had been blocked by NADRA, prompting him to seek judicial relief.

Representing NADRA, the authority’s Director Legal told the court that the petitioner’s identity card had been blocked because it was deemed “suspicious”. The official did not disclose the specific grounds for the decision during the hearing.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the bench instructed the petitioner to appear before the NADRA board, which reviews disputed identity and registration matters, for further proceedings.

The court did not issue a final ruling on the petition and instead directed the petitioner to pursue the matter before the relevant forum within NADRA.

The case centres on the blocking of the identity card of a citizen whose legal name is Quaid-e-Azam.

The petitioner argues that the suspension of his CNIC has affected his ability to carry out his business activities, while NADRA maintains that the document was blocked because it was considered suspicious.

The matter will now be examined by the NADRA board in accordance with the authority’s prescribed procedure before any further legal proceedings, if required.
