Citing the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily halted flights to Riyadh as attacks on Saudi airports disrupt air traffic.

The airline announced the suspension on Friday and advised passengers to contact its call centre for the latest information about their flights.

The decision follows a series of attacks on Saudi Arabia claimed by Yemen’s Houthi movement, amid escalating fighting involving the group and Saudi forces.

Three people were killed in attacks on two Saudi international airports on Wednesday, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, after the Houthis claimed to have targeted both facilities.

A Pakistani national was injured in the attack on Riyadh airport, along with five Saudi citizens and two Egyptians.

The airport came under attack again on Thursday, causing severe damage to an aircraft.

Meanwhile, flight disruptions continued on Friday. According to Flightradar24 data, 104 flights arriving at or departing from Riyadh airport were cancelled and 154 delayed.

The website also recorded 335 cancellations on Thursday.

Separately, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif also denounced the recent Houthi strikes and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security under the Makkah Defence Alliance.
