Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has said that President Donald Trump will always be remembered as an “advocate of peace” for his role in halting the 2025 military clash between Pakistan and India.

Attending a ceremony hosted by the United States (US) Mission in Pakistan on Thursday to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, Sharif extended congratulations on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to President Trump, the US administration and the American people. He said that America’s history is a story of hope and enlightenment.

The prime minister noted that Pakistan and the United States share a relationship spanning eight decades, with ties across counterterrorism, trade and investment. He recalled that the US was among the first countries to recognise Pakistan after it gained independence, and that America also supported Pakistan’s green revolution.

Sharif said that “one million Pakistanis consider the United States their second home, thousands of Pakistani graduates are currently receiving training there, and that Pakistan’s labour force holds considerable importance in the American economy”.

On the conflict with India, the prime minister said that “India had attacked Pakistan last year and that Trump played a part in bringing the fighting to a stop”. He reiterated that the US president would be remembered as a man of peace.

Sharif also said that “Pakistan is serving as a sincere mediator between the US and Iran and expressed gratitude to both countries for placing their trust in Islamabad”. He praised Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his efforts, saying he is advancing Pakistan’s work toward regional peace and stability.
