Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a comprehensive, thirty-minute telephone conversation with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday to outline future diplomatic tracks following the signing of the historic Islamabad Peace Deal.
The high-level contact marks the first official communication between the two leaders since Pakistan successfully mediated a resolution to the devastating US-Iran conflict.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Sharif extended his warmest congratulations to the Iranian leadership and its people, noting that the landmark deal would “not only help restore peace in the region, but also go a long way in rebuilding the Iranian nation and further strengthening Pakistan-Iran ties”.
In return, President Pezeshkian expressed profound gratitude on behalf of his nation, explicitly praising the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their “extremely critical roles in steering the mediation process, with great skill and sincerity, that had ensured its success”.
The Iranian President affirmed that Tehran would always remember Islamabad’s constructive efforts during these difficult times.
The diplomatic milestone comes amid fragile geopolitical conditions, following an online Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing between US President Donald Trump and President Pezeshkian to establish a 60-day ceasefire and lift the naval blockade on Iran.
The diplomatic breakthrough has successfully ushered in a historic ceasefire, effectively halting active hostilities and paving the way for a fragile but highly positive regional truce. Both Washington DC and Tehran remain publicly committed to the peace framework, with the lifting of the naval blockade on Iran expected to proceed as planned over the coming days.
