Police and other law-enforcement agencies have defused six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and arrested 14 suspects during a search and combing operation in various areas of Miryan tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Bannu district.
According to the police, personnel from the police, Elite Force, Quick Response Force, Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) took part in the operation, which targeted multiple locations across the tehsil.
The police said the operation resulted in the seizure of two Kalashnikov rifles, a repeater shotgun, four rifles, a cache of ammunition and eight motorcycles.
According to the statement, Bomb Disposal Unit experts defused six IEDs containing a total of 120 kilogrammes of explosives in the Mambati Barakzai and Khanikhel areas. The police said the explosives were safely neutralised during the operation.
According to the police, the operation involved coordinated action by multiple security and law-enforcement units to search targeted locations and remove potential security threats.
The operation disrupted routine life across parts of the district. According to reports, residents remained indoors as security measures remained in place, while major roads, including Bannu Police Lines Road, Predy Gate Road and Miranshah Road, stayed closed, causing traffic congestion.
According to reports, ration packages for around 600 stranded families were handed over to security forces for distribution once the security situation improved.
Internet and mobile phone services remained suspended, disrupting business, educational and official activities, while markets were only partially open because of security concerns.
