Local police have detained a man and his parents in Rawalpindi’s Chaklala area after his wife accused them of physical abuse, including beatings and cutting her hair, according to police.
The woman, who lives in Shah Khalid Colony, lodged an FIR [First Information Report] with Chaklala police, stating that she had been married for five years. She alleged that her husband and in-laws had beaten her repeatedly to force her to perform household chores.
According to the complaint, she had endured the abuse to preserve her marriage. However, the latest incident took place around 4pm on Sunday, when her husband was away at work.
She alleged that her mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law beat her and cut her hair while she was at home.
The woman told police that when her husband returned and she informed him about the incident, he refused to believe her. She further alleged that he also assaulted her before locking her inside the house.
According to the FIR, she managed to escape to a neighbour’s house and contacted her parents.
She later approached the police with her sister to file a complaint against her husband and in-laws.
A police spokesperson said that senior officers had taken notice of a social media post concerning violence against a woman in Chaklala. Police subsequently traced the woman and her family.
The spokesperson added that the incident had not previously been reported to police. The woman’s husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law were detained on Tuesday, while the allegations remain under investigation.
Police said that investigators were examining the matter from all angles and reiterated that violence, oppression and exploitation of women would not be tolerated.
