Police in the Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have successfully rescued a 54-year-old French woman and her five children from a residential property following allegations that the family had been subjected to years of severe domestic abuse and forced confinement.
The rescue operation, confirmed by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed, was launched on June 18 after authorities received verified intelligence regarding the family’s dire situation.
The raid took place at the private residence in Bara tehsil, where Sylvia Yasmina, the French national, had been residing since her marriage to a local Pakistani citizen in 2014.
Upon securing the premises, officers discovered the family living in highly distressing conditions.
According to reports, the mother and her five children — one of whom suffers from hearing and speech impairments — were immediately taken into protective custody, and later transported to a women police station in Peshawar where they are currently receiving support while further legal proceedings are conducted.
In a formal statement provided to the police, Yasmina alleged that she had been held against her will and subjected to persistent physical assault by her husband for over a decade.
A FIR [First Information Report] of the abuse described a harrowing account of violence, where the mother and her children were routinely denied freedom and subjected to assault.
Yasmina has expressed her desire to return to France, after which, the Foreign Office has contacted the French Embassy for provision of consular assistance.
Investigations into the husband’s conduct remain ongoing, with authorities promising thorough prosecution as they work to ensure the family’s safe repatriation.
