Policeman arrested for aerial firing on his wedding after child dies of bullet wound

A policeman suspected of aerial firing on his wedding has been arrested along with his companions after a young child was killed on Sunday by a stray bullet in Lyari's Musa Lane.

Karachi police have confirmed to local media that the groom, Aftab Ahmad, is a police constable posted in the office of the Police Chief. He has now been charged in the case along with seven other suspects and four unknown individuals.

Initial reports suggest that Aftab and his friends indulged in aerial firing in the Police Quarters near Docks Police Station. SMGs, 9 mm pistols and 30-bore rifles were allegedly used in the aerial firing to celebrate Aftab's marriage.

Police have said that the point where the men were firing into the air and the spot where the child was hit were separated by a distance of just one kilometer.

Hayat Fatima was inside her eighth floor apartment when the bullet hit her on the head. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Karachi where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are working to investigate whether the guns used at Aftab's wedding match the bullet that killed the child.
