The Power Division has issued a high-alert public advisory warning electricity consumers against a sophisticated digital scam operating under the guise of official government subsidy programs. According to a spokesperson, fraudulent elements are using malicious QR codes and deceptive online links to target unsuspecting citizens and steal sensitive personal data.
The scam unfolds through a structured, four-step trap. Victims are directed to scan a fake QR code or click a specific link that takes them to an unofficial platform. They are then prompted to input private consumer details. To complete the malicious harvesting process, the platform demands a six-digit verification code.
The Power Division explicitly warned that this entire mechanism is illegal, unauthorized, and deliberately designed for data theft.
Officials clarified that legitimate consumer registration and billing details must never be provided on any external or unverified digital platform. The government emphasizes that consumers should refrain from submitting any digital or paper-based information to unofficial individuals claiming to facilitate power subsidies.
Law enforcement agencies have already been alerted to identify and apprehend the criminal networks behind the campaign. The public is urged to remain highly vigilant and verify all utility information exclusively through the official communication channels of their respective electricity distribution companies.
