President Asif Ali Zardari has officially summoned the federal budget sessions for both houses of parliament on June 5, scheduling the National Assembly session to convene at 5 pm and the Senate meeting at 6 pm.
The scheduling comes alongside statements from Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, who assured that efforts are actively being made to minimise the financial burden on the public in the upcoming budget.
Earlier, the timeline for the crucial legislative sessions underwent sudden changes due to the unavailability of lawmakers. Initially, reports indicated that the government had planned to convene separate sessions for the National Assembly and the Senate on June 1 to kick off the budget deliberations.
However, the plans were altered because more than 60 members of parliament had traveled to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj.
Since the lawmakers are expected to return home in the first week of June, the government adjusted the parliamentary calendar to ensure their presence.
Consequently, both houses will now formally meet on June 5 to kickoff the federal budget proceedings.
