The Lahore Education Authority has ordered all private schools in the city to adhere strictly to the summer vacation schedule under which they are due to reopen on August 22, 2026.
Officials stated that non-compliance will result in immediate registration suspensions, cancellations, and substantial monetary penalties. The authority noted that individuals managing non-compliant institutions will face administrative proceedings, while the district administration holds the power to seal premises that go against the directive.
The current vacation schedule stems from a broader Punjab government decision announced in May, under which all public and private schools across the province were closed starting Friday, May 22, 2026, with the closure applying to every level, from primary to higher secondary institutions.
The extended break was announced in response to heatwave warnings from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which had forecast above-normal temperatures across the province throughout May, June and July, while also aligning the summer vacation with the Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
Education officials urged private school managements to implement the break without exception to prevent enforcement measures.
This decision comes as four major private school bodies, including the All Pakistan Private Schools and Colleges Association, rejected the 90-day vacation schedule and announced plans to challenge it in the Lahore High Court, arguing that extended closures harm academic progress, increase screen time, and disrupt student learning routines.
