The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has set October 4 as the final date for its long march, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi set to lead the protest from southern parts of the province, provincial Information Minister Shafi Jan said Wednesday.
“Long march will start from southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 4. CM Afridi will lead it,” Jan said in a post on X.
The party had initially planned to march towards Islamabad on September 27 but later postponed the protest after its political committee unanimously agreed to reschedule it for October 4.
The postponement had prompted speculation over whether the march would go ahead, with questions also raised about PTI’s preparations and ability to mobilise supporters.
CM Afridi had also previously said the rescheduled march would begin from Peshawar on October 4. However, Jan’s latest announcement indicates that the starting point has now shifted to southern parts of the province.
The march is part of PTI’s campaign calling for the release of party founder and former prime minister (PM) Imran Khan.
