PTI leader and lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha has been booked for alleged electricity theft in Bhera, with an electricity company inspection finding that a domestic meter linked to a consumer identified as Naeem Haider had allegedly been tampered with, police said on Saturday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) registered a case at Bhera Police Station on the complaint of Muhammad Atif Zia, Sub-Divisional Officer of the company’s Sardar Pur Noon Sub-Division.
The case was filed under Section 462-I of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which deals with theft of electric power and tampering with electricity meters used by domestic consumers.
The FIR said a FESCO task force inspected the meter at the consumer’s premises after finding it suspicious.
The meter was removed and sent to the company’s laboratory in Sargodha for examination.
An examination by the Executive Engineer of FESCO’s Metering and Testing (M&T) department in Sargodha allegedly found that the meter had been tampered with, according to the FIR.
The report added that the seals on both sides had been broken and the meter’s body had been opened.
It also alleged that an additional wire had been installed and the meter’s terminal had been shunted, allowing electricity to be consumed directly.
The FESCO official subsequently requested registration of a criminal case against the consumer on the basis of the inspection and laboratory findings, the FIR said.
