Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab Maryam Nawaz has ordered authorities to designate dedicated lanes for motorcycles on major roads in Lahore and called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly by vehicles operating under the Suthra Punjab Programme.

On Monday, while chairing a meeting on traffic management, Nawaz expressed concern over violations allegedly committed by Suthra Punjab vehicles and directed officials to ensure that they follow traffic rules without exception.

The Chief Minister (CM) also expressed grief over the death of a minor girl who was run over by a Suthra Punjab vehicle.

Nawaz directed authorities to strictly enforce the use of zebra crossings, designated areas where pedestrians can cross roads, and agreed to introduce camera-based digital monitoring to improve compliance.

Officials also reviewed a proposal to install alert buttons for pedestrians crossing roads.

The Chief Minister (CM) ordered a pilot project on The Mall to enforce zebra-crossing rules and directed that Ferozepur Road be developed as a model road for Lahore.

She further instructed authorities to prevent cargo tractor-trolleys from operating on roads without proper covers.

The covering requirement is also to be strictly enforced for tractor-trolleys operating under the Suthra Punjab Programme.

Nawaz directed officials to take immediate steps to reduce congestion at Shahdara and Thokar Niaz Baig, stressing that traffic movement at Lahore’s entry and exit points should remain unobstructed.

She also ordered the installation of traffic signals at Pine Avenue and Jati Umra Chowk as part of measures aimed at improving traffic management.
