Punjab’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested 13 terrorism suspects during a series of Intelligence-Based Operations (IBO) across the province, recovering explosives and other material.

According to a departmental spokesperson, the arrests were made during 98 intelligence-based operations conducted by the CTD.

Among those detained is Wajid, who is linked to India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), the country’s external intelligence agency. He has been arrested from Pakpattan.

The spokesperson named several of the other suspects as Usman, Naeem, Abdul Mannan, Osama, another suspect also identified as Usman, Hasan and Babar.

Authorities recovered explosive material, a hand grenade, three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), 12 detonators and 35 feet of fuse wire from the suspects.

The CTD registered 13 cases against the arrested suspects, the spokesperson said, without providing further details about the allegations or the specific offences registered in each case.

Separately, the department carried out 1,595 combing operations across Punjab during the current week in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.

According to the spokesperson, authorities checked 55,416 people during these operations and arrested 52 suspects.

The CTD said its operations were continuing as part of efforts to maintain security across Punjab.

The arrests come as Pakistani authorities continue security operations against terrorist activity.
