The Punjab government has requested the deployment of the army and Rangers in several districts ahead of the planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march on September 27, according to media reports.
In a letter addressed to the federal government, the Punjab Home Department sought Rangers personnel for Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali, while also requesting the deployment of the army in Rawalpindi.
The deployment has been requested until October 5, according to the letter.
Punjab government has sought the additional security personnel to maintain law and order amid the planned PTI march.
The request was also discussed by the Punjab Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice, according to reports.
Separately, Islamabad Police has sought 18,000 personnel from Punjab and Sindh to strengthen security arrangements in the federal capital.
The force has requested 16,000 personnel from Punjab Police and 2,000 from Sindh Police.
Islamabad Police has also sought three Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), seven Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and 18 Superintendents of Police (SPs) from the two provinces, according to reports.
The requests come as authorities prepare security arrangements in Punjab and Islamabad ahead of the PTI’s planned protest activity.
