The Balochistan government has announced plans to send acid attack victim Dr Mahnoor Nasar abroad for specialized medical treatment.
According to Shahid Rind, the aide to the Balochistan Chief Minister (CM), official arrangements are underway to facilitate her travel overseas. Dr Nasar is currently admitted at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, where she is expected to continue her initial medical care for another week.
Following this period, she will be moved to the United States (US) to receive specialized treatment. Rind stated that the provincial government has initiated the necessary administrative procedures and is utilizing available resources for her care.
On June 6, the 29-year-old doctor was targeted inside the Civil Hospital in Quetta.
A hospital employee threw acid on her, resulting in severe burn injuries across her face, chest, legs, and other parts of her body. After receiving primary emergency care in Quetta, she was shifted to Karachi for advanced medical attention.
Earlier, the Governor of Sindh, Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, visited the private hospital in Karachi to monitor her progress. During the visit, Hashmi met with Dr Nasar’s father to discuss her health status and the ongoing medical procedures.
He instructed the hospital administration to ensure the provision of medical facilities and care for the patient.
Hashmi condemned the assault, describing the attack on Dr Nasar as “inhumane, deeply tragic, and unacceptable”. He added that “such brutal elements deserve no leniency and must face the strictest legal action in accordance with the law”.
The Governor stated that the victim and her family would receive assistance during this period, and he reiterated commitments regarding the safety and security of healthcare professionals and doctors within the medical system.
