Rawal Sharjeel Memon has rejected social media claims that he fled Pakistan and denied allegations linking him and his father, Sharjeel Memon, to the alleged murder of Wafflix owner Mir Raza Ali.
In a social media post, Rawal said claims that he had “run away from Pakistan” were false, adding that he was “very much in Pakistan”. He also denied that the guesthouse in Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi, where Mir Raza was allegedly tortured and killed, was owned by either him or his father.
Rawal said the campaign appeared to have originated from two political pages, which he described as being affiliated with “political groups”.
“Regardless of political affiliations, no one has the right to drag an individual’s name into a matter of this seriousness without a single piece of evidence,” Rawal said.
He called for those responsible for starting the campaign to be arrested and held accountable, saying the allegations were playing with the feelings of the mourning family.
The statement came after Sharjeel Memon submitted a written complaint to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Karachi Zone on Aug 9 through his lawyer.
The complaint accused unknown social media users of circulating false and malicious claims about Memon and his son.
According to the complaint, the posts also alleged that Rawal had left for London after the incident and later moved around with a bodyguard.
Memon rejected the claims and described the campaign as an organised smear effort.
The complaint was filed amid the investigation into Mir Raza’s death, after another autopsy led to a murder charge being added to the case.
