Karachi-based Russian influencer Daria Shatova has gone viral with a parody video inspired by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s recent speech on Vigo pickup truck.
The video has racked up thousands of views and reactions across social media.
“Hahaha. Btw, Khawaja sahab is against the ‘Dala’ culture and he’s technically right. But this was hilarious,” one user wrote.
“Stunned after seeing her understanding Urdu,” another commented.
“Well, it does actually happen in Pakistan, so he’s right,” another person remarked.
Another simply reacted with, “Expressions.”
Asif had raised the issue of Vigo vehicles in the National Assembly on Sunday, calling them a symbol of vulgarity and demanding that they be banned from Parliament Lodges and roads.
Speaking on the floor of the house, Asif said green-number-plate Vigos speed through Parliament Lodges where members, their families and guests are present. “The Vigo itself has become a symbol of vulgarity, and it should be banned,” he stressed.
He added that something changes in a person the moment they sit behind the wheel of a Vigo. “The moment someone sits behind the steering wheel of a Vigo, something seems to happen to their mind,” he remarked, adding that he witnesses this daily during his morning walks.
Asif also raised the issue of national flags being displayed on ministers’ vehicles after sunset, saying the practice should be stopped. He noted that flag protocol does not apply when a minister is seated in the middle seat.
He said that around 250 to 300 MNAs live at Parliament Lodges, and if they require no security detail, there is little justification for ministers moving around with armed gunmen in speeding vehicles.
“Ban them from the roads as well,” he said. “If I have to use the word vulgarity, nothing represents it more than the Vigo.”
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq responded by saying he would take up the matter.
